石井馨一 Keiichi Ishii

1979年福岡県大川市生まれ。10代のころはバブル崩壊前、当時はツキ板の需要がたいへん多くスライサー後の乾燥を手伝いながら育ちました。大川市は家具や木材の街。木の匂いがする環境下で、工業高校建築科を卒業後、京都で造作大工を得てエレガントウッドに入社。後に2020年に代表に就任。

I was born in 1979 into a family that manufactured and sold natural wood veneers in Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Our business was started by my grandfather and father as Ishii Shōten (Shōten means Shop) in 1978, and Elegant Wood Corporation was formed in 1994 (later changed into Elegant Wood.) When I was a teenager, before Japan's bubble economy burst, there was a huge demand for wood veneers. In the factory, I often helped dry them after they were sliced. Okawa City is known for its woodworking industry. After graduating from the architecture department of a technical high school, I trained as a carpenter in Kyoto, then joined Elegant Wood.

創業1994年

バックボーンに天然木ツキ板販売の会社石井商店（1978年創業）があり、1994年にエレガントウッド（2023年に社名変更。設立時はエレガントウッドコーポレーション）を設立。当初は文化施設を含む大型の建築施設を多く手掛けてきました。2010年頃に始めたビスポーク（特注品）を少しづつ軌道に乗せ、2019年より海外展開を事業化スタートしました。2023年に5,280㎡の敷地に6棟の新社屋に移転しました。

The company began working on many large buildings, including cultural facilities, and gradually got our Bespoke (custom-made products) business going. We started this business around 2010 and began commercializing overseas expansion in 2019. I became president in 2020 and moved the company to six new buildings on a 1.3-acre site in 2023.

デザイナーの想いを叶える Realizing Designer's Wishes

デザイナーが「カタログから選ぶ」という縛りをなくし「空間に必要なデザイン」を作り上げるビスポーク（特注品）を2010年頃から始めました。空間コンセプトに基づいたデザインをCNCマシーンで切削加工、世界中から集められたユニークな天然木ツキ板練付、納品後に現場では対応できない仕上げ塗装などを提案しています。デザイナーの声にお応えできるよう可能な限り尽力し、地道な一歩を積み重ね、製品を通じて加工や仕上げのスキルを磨いてきた自負が私たちにはあります。カタログ製品の量産体制ではなく一つ一つ対話を重ねるビスポークは私たちの想いです。

Around 2010, we began offering "Bespoke" (custom-made) products, in which designers create the "design required for a space" without the constraints of "choosing from catalogs." We cut designs based on spatial concepts using CNC machines, affix unique natural wood veneers worldwide, and propose finishes that cannot be applied on-site after delivery. We take pride in our ability to respond to designers' requests and have developed our processing and finishing skills through our products. Bespoke products are not mass-produced from catalogs but are made individually through dialogue with our clients.

カタチにするということ Make Ideas into Reality

これからも日本のみならず、世界各国でいろんな建築が誕生します。建築される場所、プロジェクトのコンセプトに応じたデザインのあり方も時代に応じて変化していくと感じます。わたしたちが提案するビスポークは人や場所、デザインに絡み合いカタチになって誕生されるものです。そして会社組織も時代に伴い変化します。働きやすい環境の中で個々が成長する過程を得て、先を見据えた組織に出来上がっていくと感じます。私たちはこれからも物も組織もカタチすることを意識しております。

In the future, many kinds of architecture will be born in Japan and worldwide. The way of conceptualizing a project, realizing it on-site, and corporate organization will change with the times. The Bespoke designs we propose are born from the synergy of people, places, and designs. Individual growth in a comfortable working environment will create a forward-thinking organization. We continue to be conscious of making ideas of things and organizations into reality.
